Face it.If, during Highlowaha's celebration of National Literacy Month we could only bring to life childhood story, most of us would clamor for a spot in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Wouldn't we?
The fact that the author's birthday falls in September- the same month we celebrate literacy- makes a celebration of Roald Dahl's classic that much sweeter.
On the heel's of Tuesday's bean stalk and yesterday's talk of Rapunzel, I'm worried you think Ricky, Matthew, and Jack woke up on September 13, Dahl's birthday, t o a newly renovated home. That the living room became the Chocolate Room, the kitchen the Inventing Room, the library the Nut Sorting Room, the dining room the Television Room, and son on, and so on, and so on.
They didn't.
I'm a working mom. Who has time for that sort of thing?
Besides, September 13 was a Monday and I had an 8:30 a.m. meeting.
Instead, I decided (rigged) that we would bring his book to life by celebrating chocolate....all day.
Three squares.
Breakfast...
Lunch (sandwich with chips on the side) and...
Dinner (ok, it was dessert)
In retrospect I could have done so much more. Dahl was a creative genius. What about his Cavity Filling Caramels, Eatable Marshmallow Pillows, Lickable Wallpaper, Toffee Apple Trees, and his Candy Coated Pencils for Sucking?

I like the Original Willy Wonka... Gene Wilder... Johnny Depp sort of creeps me out in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!!
How about a chocolate straw that can be put in your drink,(makes milk into chocolate milk) but then at the end, you get to eat it!! The straw can be flavored in many ways, maybe you are drinking an iced coffee and it has some hazelnut flavor added to it. Yum!!

In the Spirit of 218, I tried my hand at a short tale about the way my husband and I schemed a creative way of giving our teenagers a surprise!

Starburst flavored crayons since kids eat them so much anyway... cRAYola would like that one!
Playing off of Willy Wonka's idea of the ever lasting gobstopper I think the piece of gum that never loses its flavor!!! Seriously nothing worse than getting a gumball and having it go flat in two minutes.
How about chapstick that is edible? Maybe there is such a thing but I remember always trying to eat my mother's chapstick when I was a baby. She even has a series of photos where I am going into her purse, pulling items out, until I find the chapstick and started eating it. Classic.
ive been sittin here thinkin bout this, but i cannot think of anything except and intravenous injection of chocolate...yes, i have been working all day...lol
MMmmmmm... seeing Nutella in your photo just made me crave it really badly. If any of you have never had it, please go buy some and try it! It's heavenly.

I think we should invent a shower head that spurts out your favorite, hard-shell candy. For me, I would need an adjustable nob to switch between M&Ms and Skittles.
