Now I'm Free.....Free for Allin'.

Good Friday morning HLA Land, it's Heather here with a fun new format for our Free for All Friday posts. You see while we had originally planned to showcase our favorite backyard game, namely cornhole, unfortunately that plan was derailed because Katie wouldn't leave her clothing in Kentucky to bring her parent's cornhole set to Texas. Where are her priorities?

But all is not lost because we had also planned to begin working on the new format for Fridays. We'll stick with this concept at least for the summer and we hope we can hone our skills as time goes on. Let us know what you think...

I like the format... kinda nice to SEE you rather than imagine you! What do we do here after dark for fun? We sit out in my yard and watch the stars, listen to frogs, talk theories.... I live in the sticks so we get to listen to the coyotes sing sometimes. We sing back to them :-)

How fun to see y'all!!!!

At night, well we buckle down... if it's spring/summer... there are so many bugs out in our wooded lot. But when someone has an event and they build a fire in their pit... we just sit around and talk and drink.... woo hoo!!

Bridge quotes:
http://thinkexist.com/quotes/with/keyword/bridge/4.html

depending what you are using it for... a bridge I think Golden Gate, or a covered bridge of Madison County, truss, suspension

It's a passage over an obstacle, a simple support.

Dicipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.

Life is a bridge cross over it, but build no house on it.

Sometimes you get the best light froma burning bridge.

Love is the bridge between two hearts... (I can easily see a cartoon bridge with a heart on each side)

Chaotic... while we have you on the line... are you going to be home for July fourth weekend?

The four of us were thinking about driving down to meet you on July 5. We're looking for a fun, Highlowaha Road Trip and your craft cottage seems like the perfect place. We want to meet you and your partner (and son if he's around).

I'm so glad people are enjoying our new Friday format. We had fun doing it and we're hoping it helps each of you feel like you're actually sitting at the table with us

I really like the new format! It is neat to see and hear all of you.

At our house, we usually are inside after dark. It gets SO buggy in the summer, so unless we have a bonfire going it is pretty unpleasant. Another after dark thing we like to do is go to Sonic and get drinks or ice cream. We live out in the middle of nowhere, but we do have a Sonic down the road!

Cheryl Houston said...

OH! OH!

Does everyone know that Sonic has "Happy Hour" between 2 and something... I'm such a great maven! 4 I think.

We had just finished grocery shopping one Sunday afternoon and Drew pipes from the back seat, "Can we go to Happy Hour?" Sounds funny coming from an 8 year old.

So it's the heat during the day and bugs at night. I thought I wasn't an outdoor person but man! You ladies have me beat!:)

Good morning folks...I agree with the bugs Peggy...they are bad up there.
But, there is a new iPhone app that is supposed to repel mosquitos because it gives off a noise that is unpleasant to them but that you can't hear.
For all of those with kids what about a camp out in the back yard?
For younger kids it is fun in and of itself for older high school kids they can invite their team, club or youth group over for a night of bonfires, smores, and gossiping in the tents.
I had a campout with the high school colorguard I taught a few years ago and they LOVED it...they reverted to 5 year olds but it was fun.

Good morning, HLA Land!

I have to say although it took some getting used to- it is fun to share a piece of our Thursday meetings with all of you! I love it. Plus, I love that I get to be there live and in person instead of just on speaker phone.

As for the free for all- some of my favorite things for after dark are flashlight tag, midnight swimming, sardines (which is way more fun at night than it is during the day), catching lightening bugs, making smores over a grill (when there's no fire in sight), etc. As for you all and your bugs- get some bug spray and get your rear ends outside!

Fun to watch you guys!
bridges...spanning the distance...all I got..need more info on purpose...
night activities...in agreeement with the whiners comments...You don't know hot till you've been in AZ! I love it tho! Rather be hot than cold any day!
Have a good day all! Hope it lets me post this time...

i love the new format! during the summer, my family lives at a campground at the jersey shore, so we have plenty of campfires with s'mores and whatever else we can find to roast. (i've roasted apples, pepperoni... we get creative!) mountain pies are also a lot of fun.
i love after-dark swimming at my dad's house, he has a great pool. we can't turn the underwater light on, though, because then the bats swoop down and freak my sister and i out, haha.

Video blog was fun and creative, but PLEASE do not have coffee mugs next time. It was distracting to see a white mug go up to everyone's face every five minutes.

Cheryl Houston said...

Oh no Anonymous! That's one of the top reasons I go to the Beeny's house- Fresh yummy coffee!!

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Anonymous... Thanks for the feedback about the mugs. Noted and consider the correction made. Boy the women on The View make it look so easy.

Lori! You made it through!!!! Yipppeeeee! It's so nice to see you posting. We miss our regulars when they fall off the radar for a period of time.

I think it should become a game. How many times will the girls drink out of their mugs? Who will take the most drinks? Katie wins this week with 12. I came in second with 8. Heather and Claudia rounded us out with 6 and 3 a piece respectively. HA!!

Katie said...

You can't take my coffee mug away! I drank out of it 12 times to avoid the awkwardness of the camera! However, now that I'm aware of it ( I even noticed myself the nuisance of the mug always in front of my face) I will probably avoid it.

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

This is what is GREAT about our community. At the heart of everything we do there is FUN and CREATIVITY!!!!!

Cheryl, I love your game. Anonymous your feedback is good... very good, BUT... the chance to make our already fun Friday activity even more fun is a little irresistible.

Tune in next week to see if we nixed the mugs or not.

Oh just think of the places we can go with this... secret words, secret movements, Spot the Ray... I know Claudia can come up with at least 10 more.

well, im tuning in a little bit late today...for some reason, i could not load HLA on my computer all day! BUT now that I am here...

LOVE seeing you guys. oh how i miss you three-dr. b, heather, and katiek (and cheryl, i still want to MEET YOU!!!). I too noticed the coffee mugs, and thought they might not be necessary...BUT who really cares?! it could become fun to have a game attached, something different every week. Hidden items, etc.

I dont know who those whiners were, but I LOVE SUMMER and being outside, swimming, camping, whatever! so it wasnt me you guys are talkin bout. After dark...swimming is fun at night because nosey neighbors cant see you, catching lightening bugs, going for a walk or run, camping and making smores, laying down and looking at the stars...

bridges...hmmmmm...not sure at this moment.

And since KY is apparently running away with the competition, Im goin to go cast my vote...Im sure you all are wondering which way I will vote??? :-D

Love the video format! How fun? Keep the mugs... the rest of us will turn it into a Friday night drinking game! Every time one of you takes a drink, we have to take a drink (of the beverage of our choice). :)

Bridge quotes... not sure about that one.

Outside fun. I PREFER after-dark fun because my hair is insane with the heat and humidity during the day, and quite frankly, I'm a sweaty gal, but I do love going for evening walks, hanging out around a fire with s'mores, going to Graeter's or Cold Stone and sitting outside to eat it... all the stuff already mentioned, I guess. When I was growing up, one of my favorite things to do was to sit on our back screened-in porch with my dad during summer thunderstorms. Before that, we lived in a house without a screened porch, so we used to open the garage doors and watch/listen from there. I LOVE thunderstorms as a result--brings back lots of happy memories of father-daughter time.

By the way, I hope anyone even reads this (since I'm posting so late), but I'm desperately hoping you guys won't come to Kentucky for Taste of USA during Labor Day weekend. I'll be in NH visiting my in-laws, and I REALLY don't want to miss the fun!

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

Stacie, We heard you and will not schedule the trip during Labor Day.

We don't want you to miss the fun.
