Triathlon, Day One: Mmmosaics

Welcome athletes for the first leg of our Highlowaha Triathlon.

We can't very well be a blog about creativity and community without occasionally testing your creativity in a friendly little competition. Each August we participate in a three-day athletic event, flexing and stretching each of our creative muscles - except in the fourth year. In the fourth year, we join other elite athletes and compete in an Olympic Decathlon.

A quick recap of some things to know:

Events are posted at 4:00 a.m. each morning. You have until 10:00 p.m. CST to complete your task and send your submission via email to info@highlowaha.com. To be considered a triathlete you must compete in all three events, though you may dabble in only one or two if you are participating only recreationally. Submissions will be evaluated by a small panel of judges and assigned a score ranging from one to ten points. The three people accumulating the most points will be crowned 2009 Highlowaha Triathlon Champions and will win purses of $100.00, $50.00, or $25.00.

Today we flex our creative hand.
Using one medium bag of Milk Chocolate M & Ms (12.60 oz), create a mosaic. That's it. Simple, creative, and yummy.

Once completed, take a digital photo of your mosaic and email it to info@highlowaha.com. Please put the word, "mosaic" your subject line.

But, before you're off and running... let me know you're out there by sharing what you'll do with your m&ms once your masterpiece is finished? Celebrate by eating them? Eat the green, but toss the rest? Mod Podge your mosaic and save it for the Highlowaha Hall of Fame?

On your marks, get set...
Signing off until tomorrow...

Do i have until 10am or 10pm CST? Because that makes a difference for me- I work 7a-7p (EST) today. So unless I have until 10p, I am already OUT of the competition. Lucky ducks.

Cassie- 10 pm. Good luck, everyone!

Yep 10 PM CST which is actually 11PM your time Cassie...don't fret, you can still compete!

Oooohh...did I draw a lucky day to compete or what? I'll celebrate by sharing my M&M's with Lily.

I'm super excited for this one!

Not sure what I'll do with the M&Ms.... I'm sure I'll eat a fair share of them.

.......................

P.S. We don't have too many HLA folks in the fantasy football league yet. Only three of us.

Thank goodness it's grocery shopping day...gonna get me a bag and have my hand at it!

Hmm- so it has to be just 1 bag of medium mms, no peanut or other type- do you have to use the entire bag?
Luckily I'm going to Target today so I guess we can buy a bag and let the boys have some. I definitely don't need to eat a bag of mms.
Good luck everyone!!!

Hello HLA world. I've been MIA for a while as we've been doing RA training from 9-9 daily. I haven't had a second to tune in.

But I'm glad I did today. I'll see what I can come up with. Maybe I"ll send Treye to the store to get M&Ms and then get creative when I get home tonight.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Cristine... great idea. This is the perfect activity for kids to help out with.

there is a joy in living in the sticks... unless, of course, you need a bag of M&Ms. There is a Walgreens near my work, will sneak out in a coupla hours to see if they have some. As for what I will do with them afterwards? I don't milk chocolate so will propbably feed thenm to Jesse, here at work. He eats anything. :-)

Brian never fear Bal and I will join in fantasy football again this year (unfortunately I've forgotten my yahoo account info so I need to take time to create a new account to sign up!).

Cheryl Houston said...

What do I have to do for Fantasy Football? Does it take a lot of time? Do have to know stats and stuff? Do I have to watch every professional football game in the history of 2009? I guess that would be future. :)

Mandy said...

I wish I could, but there's no time to get to the store and get some M&Ms and make a mosaic while I'm at work :(

Looks like fun though, wish I was a stay at home mom!

Robin said...

I am going to splint them up and share them on my kid's lunches for the first day of school!

heather said...

Mandy you have until 10 tonight!

Cheryl you can be as involved in FF or uninvolved as you want. Some folks did autodraft last year and just let the season run its course...others (well Bal and I for sure) checked in at least a few times a week to pick up players/change our roster/make trades etc...

Laurel said...

do you need to use the whole bag?

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

MAndy... Heahther is right. You don't have to submit your picture until 10:00 p.m. You can do it!!!! Many of our contenders will are working men and women.

Some of you have asked whether or not you need to use the entire bag. No. Nothing says you have to use every single m&m, but you may NOT use more than one bag.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Hey, where's Peggy?

Cheryl Houston said...

Okay Fantasy Football Players... the Texas Sharks are signed up. How do I get to pick my Quarterback because I really want Aaron Rodgers- He's so cute!!

My goal was to run to the grocery tonight, so if I make it out I'll compete and maybe I'll save some of my m&m's for the big kids when they get back in town:) Hmmm...what to create? I'll have to think about this one!

Chaotic Kristi said...

well, that was fun! Amazing what you can do with one person watching the door and the other answering the phone while I built an M&M mosaic here at work :-) will upload pic to email when I get home! And, since I found DARK CHOCOLATE M&Ms I will be EATING the WHOLE bag!

Melanie said...

Chaotic, there are dark chocolate m&ms???? How did I miss that memo? YUM!

Robin said...

Ashley and I did ours at a restaurant during lunch break. My 8 yo did her own. You should have heard everyone around us!

Cheryl Houston said...

Erica~ Haven't heard much about the twins or you. What's going on over there in Twinsville?

Laurel said...

Thanks for the clarification...

That was fun!! My bag had so few brown / blue ones - it was very heavily yellow, orange and green... interesting.

Peggy said...

I'm here! So, how much did y'all pay for your m&m's??? My bag was $4.06. My dd and I worked together and will submit two... one my design, the other hers. The only thing special we will do with the left overs is EAT THEM!!

Do we need to purchase anything else for the next two days? Maybe next time, we got a shopping list a few days ahead of time.... it's not like we're going to know what the challenge is... but to have everything on hand would be easier!
Just a thought!

We just sent ours. Mms must be anti packers because I didn't have enough green and yellow to do packer stuff. But there was plenty of blue and yellow hmm. I sent the picture via iPhone hopefully it worked
ps Matthew and William would like to thank you for the candy

Hey everyone, this is your bean counter, KTK checking in very quickly! So far, we have 13 submissions for Day # 1 of the Triathlon! Keep them coming...you still have 6 hours left!

I plan on turning mine into some cookies and sending them to work with the hubby. His co workers and assistants LOVE it when I send in my sweet goodies! Good luck everyone...I had a blast making mine.

A twin update...they're doing well, growing great! They're as cute as can be, but difficult when both are crying as can be expected. This is my first week without my parents, but they took the big kids, so I'm figuring out how to do things by myself with the twins before I have all 5 by myself!

I got 2 of my friends together for dinner and decided to include them in on the fun. We will see if we all last the 3 days! We put the remaining M&Ms in my gumball machine, I will have to take a picture of that too! It's full, now I am stuck with trying not to eat them! :)
