Our Friday plans were foiled. Heather, Cheryl, and I were scheduled to meet last night so we could tape today's Free For All Friday video. Eight inches of snow later, we wimpy Texans decided to stay home instead of braving the wet and slushy roads.
I promised the blog wouldn't fall apart in the absence of our much anticipated video and that, somehow, I would pull out an extra blog post for the week. Void of a real topic, I resort to writing about what is on my mind - good, bad, or boring.
First. Creativity is everywhere. Look at what some of my neighbors whipped up last night.
Second. How do you throw away a garbage can? My husband and I have been trying to throw away a garbage can for weeks. At first we tried placing the old garbage can in the new one, hoping they get the hint and figure out the can itself was garbage. No go. Then we tried printing "garbage" in black sharpie on the side of the can. Still no go. Got any suggestions?
Third. Today marks the culmination of the latest Target Challenge. A recap of this creative game for Highlowaha's newbies. I purchase an item from the Dollar Bin at Target and then present it to Heather and Cheryl. Testing their creativity, these women u se the item to do something clever. Then you the readers vote on who made best use of the item. I've recently decided to get in on the action, so check out all three and then vote on the one you like most.

Gotta be C!
And wow to the snowmen.
Love the snowmen!
I can't believe we got almost 10 inches of snow when all was said and done...with no snow plows, salt trucks, etc...that is going to make for an interesting day today.
Lovin' the snowmen, we made one with Lily that she tackled before we could put his hat on. Then later enjoyed some snow ice cream as our dessert.
Now let's see...throw away the garbage can...I wrote on one "Please take me" in black sharpie and set it by the road empty. Your other option is to let Ricky take out some frustration on the can (AKA break it into pieces) so it is more discernibly trash.
I will vote for A.
I am on my way into work, after having a 2-day "Snowcation" here in southwestern Virginia.
It's been a pretty intense winter in this area. We missed out on the last storm to come through, but all my friends near Pittsburgh got hammered with 2 feet earlier this week.
Anyone watching the Olympic torch lighting ceremony tonight? I LOVE the winter Olympics.
Great pictures. How do you have as much snow as me. Crazy. Love the snow men
Here's an idea for the garbage can - break it and use it for a sleigh today.
I pick C (maybe if I had that someone else in my house might help with the dishes.)
Have a a great day everyone!
I love the cupcake stand! Too cute!
Have I mentioned that I hate snow. Hate it. With a Passion. But- my backyard does look kind of pretty with the pool all blue and the white all around... but I really do hate snow. :)
I love the snowmen sitting on the wall. That's so clever.
I think everyone else is right. You're going to need to break the garbage can and then maybe put a couple of pieces in a plastic bag and/or lay it on it's side. Good luck with that.
Happy Friday everyone!
I love the snowmen on the wall!
I vote for the cupcake stand.
My first idea for trashing the trash can was the same as everyone else's. Destroy it as much as possible, then put a sign on it clearly stating "This is trash".
Love the snowmen on the wall! I truly enjoy the enthusiasm of those who don't get much snow... we have 10 inches of snow on the ground and nary a snowman in sight... but I did see a mail box down from a snow plow... and at the end of one driveway the pile was over my head.
Garbage can.... midnight trash run...does your husband's company have one of those huge trash bins... toss it in there...or crush it down, and then put it in the bottom of your regular can...or be creative... write a big sign on it "FREE", make it into some Picasso type of art!
For creativity sake.... love the cupcake stand...
This is your day to SHINE!

Cut a face into the garbage can and light it like a jack-o-lantern before you destroy it... make people think you've lost your marbles!! LOL
It's so funny to hear people talk about snow- I live in upstate NY- I have two cars- one for snowy days (4 wheel drive jeep) and one for clear days (Mitsubichi Lancer). I would probably still drive the lancer if we only had 10 inches of snow!! LOL It does get tiring by March- but at least the kids have fun with it. They start snowboarding at a young age, and the sculptures in the yard get interesting! You should post the Calvin and Hobbes snow people comics...

Hilarious!
And I vote for #3- which reminds me- I have to order a part for my dishwasher! :)
Holy Snow in Texas!!! I also loved the snowmen on the wall, creative and cute!!
I vote for the cupcake stand!
Good morning, everyone! Yes, it is a beautifully snowy day here in Texas. The kids are outside playing right now - which means in about 15 minutes I will be changing clothes... AGAIN.
The thing about snow in Texas is that very few of us have the "equipment" we need. No boots, snow shoes, etc...
Thanks for suggestions about the garbage can. Breaking it up and using it as a sled is a perfectly timed idea.
Boy is there snow! Nobody is really equipped to drive on the roads out here, no matter what they think when they get behind the wheel!!! We are all home on a Friday - wow! Claudia - with Valentines day coming up you could always draw a huge red heart on the trash can and say "I'm YOURS!" :) Have a great 'snow day' off those of you in north TX. The movie is pretty fun to watch on a snow day too! Shine on!
go to work! The roads are fine. Just wet.
I vote for the cupcake stand...super cute!!!!
I also love the snowmen on the ledge! So creative. Some students here made a JMU out of snow...I'll post a picture of it to my blog later. It was really neat.
Off to a busy Friday...finally after a week full of snowdays!
Enjoy all that snow, Texas!
Can I talk about being stuck on an airplane at the gate for 5 hours?! Then waiting almost 2 hours to get de-iced?! That was my travel story yesterday as I went from DFW to Denver. However...our entire plane SHINED! Nobody yelled, nobody revolted...we all stayed calm and clapped and cheered with every little glimmer of hope the captain announced to us...flight 507 was full of SHINE :-)
I am in Denver now...enjoyed a GREAT preconference workshop on learning communities and I have found 3 sessions that I can/want to attend on freshmen seminars...cant wait to connect with you Claudia!
Wow, Holly that is quite the travel story!
Glad you made it safely. Enjoy the rest of the conference and we will connect when you return.
