Welcome to any new readers! I'm heading off to the Children's Courtyard bake sale in just a few minutes but wanted to take a minute to post.

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Thanks so much for the bulleted point bottom of the video, makes it easier for me to remember what I'm supposed to be doing.

1) It's end of the season, could they buy really cheap swim rings or noodles and write campus based SOS numbers?

2) My Strengths book came in the mail. I haven't opened it yet.

3) I may try a gutter sundae tonight, I've been wanting to do that. If not we're having ice cream today after my daughter's percussion camp performance.

Im wrapping up ice cream weak by going to the gym this morning! :-)

Ill be back later for the other FFAF stuff!

I don't have any specific ideas for a nautical treat, but I do know that Dollar General probably still has summer stuff for sale. A sand bucket could be fun to hold everything in, and I know that they always carry sea shells. I know that sounds more beach themed then nautical.

I am so excited about the Strengthfinder code! It will be neat to see what the results are.

I am going to the store tonight, so I may just pick up a thing of vanilla ice cream for a Friday night treat. Peanuts and hot fudge sound like really good toppings right now!

Loved the bake sale video... bake sales are my weak spot... that & Girl Scout cookies in front of the bookstore...sigh...

so, will look for nautical theme stuff in my (infrequent) travels.

we will be having Friday night movie night @ our house complete w/several Ben&Jerry's to choose from. That is how we pay homage to Ice Creak Weak... lots of flavors, spoons & bowls... and 10 of our closest friends :-)

so excited about the code, too!!

back to work... sigh...

Free for All? Hmm... I'd like to see more On Location videos! That was great... almost like being there!

The bake sale treats all looked great and the girls were all there this morning. It seemed to be going well. Thanks to all that helped.

What about origami sail boats with messages or something... Rope knots? Not sure what they can do with that...

I'm wrapping up National Ice Cream Weak by heading to the river... again! I don't know if ice cream is in the plans but alcohol is.

I think you'll really enjoy the Strengths Finder results so please get your books and join us.

That ice cream sundae was really good (thank you for voting for choc chip cookie dough and caramel sauce!) and isn't Katie from Baskin Robbins cute! She did a great job.

And finally... I'm going to do a Dine by Design but I don't know when yet.

Don't mind me. Just forgot to subscribe to the comments.

This just occurred to me. I think you need a Free For All Friday theme song. Whether it is just a popular song that you have adopted as your own, or an original I think it would be a fun intro to each Friday video.

KAT! I love it! Now if we can all just agree on something!! I think we need someone to write something for us. Does anyone out there write? I'm partial to Arthur's Theme. "And I say HEY! (hey) What a wonderful kind of day! If we could learn to work and play and get along with each other."

But we need something of our very own...

Kat... NICE idea on the jingle. Heather's husband writes music and surely we can find someone with a beautiful singing voice.

Stay tuned. We might need to make that one happen!

Dollar tree had swim noodles for a dollar, as well as sand buckets, beach gear...and all kind of fun stuff...check it out!

So, Cheryl got me thinking... what about a treasure map (message)in a bottle, with X marks the spot for the gathering of the first meeting.

If you have a lake or beach nearby, it could be the destination... activity with buckets and shovels and other natural items to build the tallest* sandcastle is you must first find your ship(team)mates to (coded some how on the map, or you can hand out bandanas for teams) or a Survior type thing, where you have to work and find the strengths of others to finish the puzzle (an actual puzzle)...
create a team flag (with supplies furnished)
go through a maze or a car rally type of thing where you have to get through check points
create a card board box boat and have a ricotta of whose will sail or sink
all ship mates are blind folded and one team members directs them strictly by voice

oh there is a lot more ....

Over achiever here, got the book, registered, took the test and am reading the book

Great video!!! it would have been cool if you panned back and shown K,C,C & H what you guys were doing, or waving like crazy, or you guys walking into the ice cream shop, longingly looking in the ice cream freezers, pointing to what you liked... wacky kinda slow mo, then a hurry up fast forward type, licking your lips, rubbing your tummy... a cutie pie crazy music video thingie!

Peggy, You're on a roll today! Thanks for all the suggestions! You're right! Those touches would be great in the video.

We were joking last night that we now need a videographer to follow us around!! NAN!!!!

I just want to be yell, "GRIP!"

You are determined to get me out of lurker status, aren't you Claudia?!

Thank you Claudia and everyone for all your cool ideas for RA training! It's going to be much more fun with your suggestions!

Boone, NC commented! YAY! I'm doing a little lurker comment dance over here.

"I just want to be yell, "GRIP!"

What the hell, Cheryl? All of your english teachers are shaking their heads or maybe it's just my typing teacher... I forgot the "able to". What an idiot! HA!

Katie said...

Yay for Boone coming out of lurker status!!! I love the idea of having our own jingle! What about a digging your feet in activity where they dig their feet in for the year. I am picturing feet in the sand with hopes for the year buried underneath.

BOONE...I know who you are...and I think it's time you reveal yourself to us. I KNOW FOR A FACT you'd have so many good ideas to offer :)

Did Claudia mention wooden life perservers? We used those during our Family Weekend event at Bellarmine the year I chaired it.They were a really nice touch. I'll look for pictures and email them to you ASAP. Also, what about nautical flags spelling out the name of your school?

You could also have your staff dress up like Gilligan's Island. I'm know you have a pic of our staff doing that once upon a time ;)

C, C, H & K...I'm 95% sure you can count Treye and I in for Taste of USA. I have to wait until we do the duty schedule in a few weeks, but I'm going to do my best to get off. So...for now...plan on seeing us back in KY. MELANIE...we're crashing your place for a few days!!!

Tomorrow we will wrap up Ice Cream Week I think. We're doing dinner with some friends and will likely get it for dessert. I'm a huge B&J fan but also like Cold Stone and UDF!

I took Strengths Finder once upon a time, but don't know what I did with the results or the book or any of it. If you're out there and you borrowed the book from me, please let me know!

Sorry for tuning in so late today. I don't have speakers on my computer at work so I can't listen until I get home.

Brian K. Root said...

Sorry I'm so late (as usual)... but I do have lots to say:

1. Bad news first - I can't commit to taste of USA, because my best friend is getting married that day. I'm his Best Man, and I'm sure he wouldn't be too happy with me if I skipped town on his wedding day.

2. Tomorrow, the local Parentwise organization is hosting an Ice Cream Blast fundraiser, so I'm gonna celebrate the week by stopping by and supporting their organization.

3. My nautical themed ideas... Are fish nautical? If so, you can do a lot of things with fish. Make fish doortags. Use our "Goal"fish idea from HLA. When your RAs check in, they should check in with someone dressed in a captains suit.

I'm sure I'll come up with more ideas for the nautical theme, but this comment is long enough...

Brian K. Root said...

oh, i already thought of something "nautical"... some of my RAs did sandcastle building as an RA program. They bought a few kiddie swimming pools and filled them with sand. I posted the program on ResidentAssistant.com awhile ago.

I love the treasure map idea for the first gathering spot!
