Breakfast of Champions

Half empty or half full?

Bummer, it's raining. But wait... mother earth needs water!

Ugh, I didn't do a stitch of laundry this weekend. But wait... I spent a fun-filled weekend with family, friends, and meeting long-time loyal reader, Chaotic (pictures of our road trip featured this Saturday).

I'm sad. Having my parents visit a few weekends ago reminded me of how much I miss seeing them. It's true, though. I am lucky to have loving, thoughtful, proud parents who are healthy and in their eighties.

The glass of orange juice pictured above hangs in my kitchen. It is a daily reminder to me and my boys that each morning we get to choose our outlook on the day.

Is the glass half empty? Or, is it half full? We decide.

Daddy won't let you eat the whole donut for dessert? Guess what? Tomorrow morning, as your eating the other half, life is going to be looking pretty good.

Zachary made fun of you for being short? The closer you are to the ground, the faster you run!

You'll be out of town the weekend of Caleb's Pump It Up birthday party? Think of the fun our family is going to have visiting Sea World.

Half empty or half full? We decide, whether we're 5, 15, 24, 44, 57, 77, 95, or 105.

Today's Monday - the day of the week that probably gets the worst rap. So tell us, is your glass half empty or half full? And... why?

Hope you had a great fourth. We did.

Signing off until tomorrow...

HA! Im back to first post-er! :-D

My glass is half full! I always try my very hardest to have a positive attitude and be optomistic. I remember the day I learned the meaning of "glass half-full or half-empty" and the difference between optomism and pessimism. I was about 10 or 11 years old, sweeping our front porch, and being very mad about it. I hated doing my chores and gave my mom grief about it all the time. Well, that day she told me to change my attitude, and have a glass that was half-full. Explanations followed, and from then on, I try to keep my glass half-full. Like all of us, its never easy, I have bad days, but Im have a very blessed life, and cannot do anything but be grateful for everything!

OH, and Im especially glass half-full right now because I got to sleep in two hours this morning and go to work at 9 instead of 7!!! :-D

Have a great day all!

my glass is full...LOL... even tho it may only LOOK to be 1/2 a glass, it is really overflowing. I hate getting up for work, esp when I've had to work around a weekend long headache. But, unlike 2 of my close friends, I HAVE a job. And, unlike some of my other friends, I have a job I LIKE.
My mom lives too far away to see regularly... but when I do get to go visit, we make the most of every minute.
I can't sleep in, even on days off, but that is because I have so many animals that just adore me & vice versa...I am blessed with a house that has room for all!

Half full...
Today my good friends Mike and Erica FINALLY get to meet their little girls...my Mom is in town and we got to spend a fun filled weekend showing her around Texas (her first time in this region of the nation)!

Now I'm off to work which could make me look at things half empty but I won't because I know that I'm lucky enough to have a job that I love and lucky that my Mom will watch Lily while I'm gone and lucky that evidently I'll be coming home to supper on the table courtesy of my Mom and it doesn't get any better than that!

Hey is that your pic from yesterday's trip to see Chaotic?

My glass is half full today. I'm making some changes in my life starting today, including being on the half full side! (It doesn't hurt that the kids went back to day camp this morning after a long, rainy weekend.)

Good question! But I realize now I can't really answer it! I need background info on the glass! And the circumstance of the beverage. Which metaphor should I use.

Was the glass full and I already drank some when the picture was taken? Is that all I got was half a glass because I was sharing the rest of the drink with a group of other people and we divided it equally?

I'm thinking depending which way I'm looking at it, I'm lucky to have a glass with something in it!!

Congratulations to Mike and Erica on the birth of their beautiful twin daughters!!!!
Katherine Maria weighs 6lbs 13oz and Clare Rebecca weighs 6 lbs 8 oz. Mom and girls are doing great.

My glass if half full. I would say that for a lot of my life (and yes, I'm still young) it was half empty. However, a lot of experiences I've had over the past year have helped me realize that my glass is really over-flowing. Don't get me wrong, I have my bad days just like everyone else, but I'm trying to make a concerted effort of looking at it half full these days.

Robin, that picture was taken on Saturday night when we all went to the same location to watch fireworks together. Pictures from our visit with Chaotic to come this weekend.

my glass is half-full! maybe even three-quarters full... mom and i are leaving for a 10-day missions trip to the dominican republic on wednesday, and i'm already packed, a whole 2 days ahead of time! that never happens. today i'm headed to my dad's house to spend time with people i love and don't see enough of. that empty 1/4 glass is because mom is feeling a little under the weather today, but she's going to the doctor this afternoon and will be in good shape come wednesday.
happy monday!

You know those friend-tag-survey's you get in your email and how one of the questions is always What's your favorite day of the week? I always feel bad for Monday because no one ever likes it so I always choose Monday. You get to go back to work and see your work friends. Kids get to go back to school during the school year and see their friends... what's so bad with Monday. It's the beginning of the week and beginnings are good. :)

I think (well, hope) it's obvious- my cup is always half full but feel free to remind me of that if I start complaining.

I actually love Mondays! They are a half full day! My husband works from home all day on Mondays so we get have him around while we go on with our normal routine. It is also my grocery shopping day, so I am always excited to have fresh stuff to cook with and to restock our cabinets. I am also glad to get back to the normal week and look forward to the fun we can have the next weekend.

Even though this morning I am not in the best mood, I do realize how fortunate I am and so I have to go with the majority and say half full. It is nice to be able to be in touch with what you are feeling but still have the awareness to know we are lucky.

Heather please tell Mike and Erika I said congrats!!

Hello! It's been a while since I've posted but I have been lurking.

Today my glass is absolutely, 110% half full. Heck, I'm pretty sure it's totally full!!! It is because today is my first day of my new job and I'm really liking it already. My boss is great and I've met other great people, too. I have a lot of my agenda this week, but I'm thankful they are already giving me responsibility and things to do. Thanks for the great recommendations Claudia & Heather!

Congrats to Mike & Erica. I wish them all the best.

Happy Monday to you all :)

I am a half empty type of person...and it has nothing to do with a positive outlook (or lack of). I am a fixer, a problem solver. My mind goes directly to what is wrong so I can figure out how to fix it. I would ask many of the questions Peggy posed...and fix it if the conclusion was it is half empty and is supposed to be full.

I am thankful for the half full people in my life. And I think they appreciate me! We keep one another grounded and smiling. Thank goodness for diversity!

Hmmm life is good so I'll say full.

But what would make life even better a little help from HLA. I entered Matt into a contest and I need your help. See we have to vote for Matt to win. It's a Johnsonville (yes the brat people) contest. If he wins he could be in a commercial or a bunch of grill stuff. Plus, if you vote you could win free stuff too. So, if you have a few minutes in your busy day, could you (and maybe your friends) vote for Matt. You can only vote once.
Thanks - the Struble Family.

My glass is always half full!

And now my stomach is full, because in honor of National Ice Cream Month, the ladies of HLA have requested that my three boys and I provide results of a taste test of two of the ladies’ favorite flavors. This was not a competition, but one of the ladies is at risk of eating her own shoe if the ice cream disappoints me.

So today, we have Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough (Vanilla Ice Cream with “Gobs” of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!) vs. Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food (Chocolate Ice Cream with Gooey Marshmallow, Caramel Swirls & Fudge Fish). Since my vote counts twice (and sometimes four times, but only when necessary!), we had no risk of a tie! Cookie Dough jumped out to a quick lead with my middle son, but the oldest and youngest put Phish Food in the lead with two votes! So, now it was 2-1 and down to my vote.

And the winner of the ice cream flavor challenge is.............. Phish Food! They were both excellent, but Phish Food exceeded my expectations! Your shoes are safe Claudia! Does anyone have a flavor that can beat Phish Food?

Cheryl Houston said...

H5! (I'm high-fiving middle son!)

I may have to try this Phish food but then again, that may just mean more Chocolate Chip Cookie dough for me even though anything caramel is usually my favorite... hmm...I can always add caramel topping to my favorite CCCD. :)

Erica & Mike K.- Congrats on your new additions! Hope all is well! I can't wait to hold a baby. (Especially since I know it will be going back.)

Yes! Phish Food wins. Give Mike R. a raise... or at least a date with a really smart, really beautiful woman who has long legs and a pension for fun.

Sounds like a dream, right?!?

Oh, and additional thanks to the oldest and youngest boys (baby-power!) whose taste is clearly as good as their father's. "Chips" off the old block!

Happy National Ice Cream Month, everyone. Chocolate with coconut and whip cream was the Beeny ice cream of choice this evening. Tomorrow, who knows?
