Women Who Take the Cake

Good morning, Highlowaha!

A special thanks to our Cruise Director who took the time yesterday to share a story about her Aunt Cynthia. Following the post yesterday, in the comment section, some of you began to share stories of women in your life who had a tremendous impact on you. Today we want to hear from more of you about these women! We want to hear about the woman who you feel "takes the cake"....

Introducing the "Woman Who Takes the Cake" Award

This is a new award here at Highlowaha that we are introducing as part of Women's History month. In the same way that we will be using Wednesdays to introduce each of you to a woman who has creative impact on our lives, we'd like you to take this opportunity to introduce us to a woman in your life. This woman can be anyone who you feel has impacted you in such a way that you have benefited from your relationship with them. This impact can be evident in a number of aspects: a neighbor who organizes community watch program, the woman from church who organizes the weekly trip to the soup kitchen, the friend who does a great job of balancing the roles of mom and a working woman, and many other examples of women you interact with each day. The important part is that you feel she "takes the cake" in whatever it is that you admire about her!

Here are the specific details that you need to know:
  • Choose a woman whom you would like to honor for "taking the cake"
  • Email a 200 word or less nomination of this woman including a photograph and the reasons you feel she "takes the cake" to highlowaha218@gmail.com
  • Submit this nomination by Wednesday, March 18 at 5 pm
  • Then, we will choose the top 3 women that we feel "take the cake" based on your nominations
  • On Friday, March 20, we will post the photos and nominations of the 3 women. At this time, the Highlowaha community will vote and choose the winner of the first annual Woman Who Takes the Cake Award.
  • The woman chosen by our community as the winner of this award will have a cake delivered to her as recognition of the impact she is making in the lives of others.
We look forward to hearing from many of you about the important women who have impacted your lives!

Hi there!
I posted my Zentangle on my blog. If you get a chance, please check it out
http://prdesigns.blogspot.com

In regards to today's post, I'll really have to put my thinking cap on... right now in the 'place' I'm in, there isn't anyone really in my life who takes the cake... they are all too busy! :0(

PEGGY! you are so darn cute! Great job! I love that Ray is in there. Maybe there isn't someone in your life today that takes the cake but maybe there was someone in the past...

Tera, I promise I'm going to send you some recipes!! DO NOT LET ME FORGET.

Kristen- I have your shirt ready to order but I want to be sure to get you a size you want. It's a mans shirt so they run larger. Let me know so I can get that ordered.

Have a great day everyone!

Hey everyone!

I only have a few recipes...not nearly enough for a cookbook! Please, please, please send them my way!

Peggy...that is awesome!

Good morning everyone. I'm excited about our Take the Cake Award. Think of this as a Random Act of Kindness for some deserving woman in your life.

Peggy, I love your zentangle and building Ray into it was a first class move. Tonight we will discuss a progressive HLA Zentangle and tomorrow we will let you know what we have decided.

Good morning, everyone!

I have gotten a few questions this morning via email about this award, so I'll just clarify for you all:

1. Yes, you can nominate a woman that we already know. If this woman "takes the cake" for you, then you should nominate her! We will be unbiased in our judging of the top 3!

2. It does not have to be someone that is currently taking the cake, but can be someone from your past, as Cheryl mentioned.

Peggy, I love your Zentangle!
Off to more meetings...but it's sunny and 58 degrees here today! Woo hoo!

I think this post has made me realize something, there weren't many creative women in my life growing up! I'm serious! Now I know where my lack of creativity comes from. I've enjoyed becoming more creative since I've had kids and love creative ideas, but I have a hard time thinking of originals. Claudia, you're definitely the most creative person I know!
Which reminds me, I joined the local Moms of Multiples group and we're trying to come up with name tag ideas with a theme "A sporting good time." Any ideas?

I will give this some thought... can think of a few people but the write up will make me think on quantifying... and that has to be done at home bc my boss keeps bugging me...

HA! Chaotic! Don't our bosses know we're busy blogging!! :)

IMPORTANT NOTE: The person you nominate for Taking the Cake does NOT have to have been a creative influence on you. She can be someone who you think takes the cake for a myriad of reasons... service to the community, balances a crazy life, made a significant contribution to something/someone, etc....

Erica... I will think more aboout your name tag idea. To clarify... You want nametags with a theme and, other than the name, you want everyone's tag to read the same? Or... do are you developing a theme and everyone's would say something different (ie. Hi, I'm Erica and I'm having a ball" and/or Hi, I'm Claudia and this is a kick)?

Will the cake be delivered in a Box?

Peggy, your zentangle has inspired me to do my own! Very nice.

So Anonymous is Erica too?
The name tags...its for a large statewide convention. They probably want to have where they're from with their name. Maybe themes or patterns based on which group they came with.
