Don't Mess with Texas!

It's Tuesday and it's Heather here with a great dose of March Madness!

Yesterday was another great preliminary round which ended with Texas Tidbits proving why you don't want to mess with Texas. Turns out we are a bunch of hungrygirl.com fans here at highlowaha and Texas Tidbits easily advanced to the next round of play. We'll see them again next week with their 2nd creative idea.

Today however, we recognize the fact that Cleveland's Creatives had a playbook filled with awesome ideas that are sure to be appreciated by our readers. So here are Tera and Treye and their
gang of friends with the remainder of their playbook:
  1. Are your favorite websites saved on your computer at home? Of course they are! But what happens when you need to access one of those sites when you’re away from home? Now you can save your favorites and access them from any computer. Portaportal (kinda like porta potty) is an easy-to-use web based bookmarking utility that lets you store links to your favorite websites online. Best of all, it’s free! http://www.portaportal.com/
  2. You’ve all seen a white board before, right? And you’ve all used a computer, right? Well now you can get the combination of both in one great product…the SMART Board. The SMART Board is an interactive, electronic whiteboard which can enhance instruction and learning. The SMART Notebook software makes it possible for teachers to create content rich, dynamic lessons which address specific student skills. The touch-sensitive display connects to your computer and digital projector to show your computer image. You can then control computer applications directly from the display, write notes in digital ink and save your work to share later.
  3. Is your phone bill through the roof? Are you sick of going over your cell phone minutes every month? Then check out Skype. With this online service, you can call other people on Skype for free and call land lines and cell phones at low rates. It’s so easy Oprah can use it (she often talks to home viewers during her show)!
  4. 5% cash back from Discover Card. Every month, you earn 5% cash back in various, everyday spending, categories. For example, right now you can earn 5% back on airlines, hotels, car rentals and cruises. In April you earn money back at clothing stores and home improvement stores. Heck, if you’re got to buy it, you might as well get some money back for doing it!
  5. Are you engaged to be married? Check out The Knot. Two couples in our group got married last summer and one will be married next summer. None of us could have survived with out this website www.theknot.com. It has all of the wedding planning tools you need from an online guest list tracker to helpful hints and don’t-forget-to-dos. It’s very user friendly!
So there you have it...five more creative ideas that Cleveland's Creatives couldn't live without. Which one is your favorite?

Announcements:

Take the Cake: Don't forget this is a fun, free way to honor a woman who truly does take the cake. Send your nominations no later than this Wednesday, March 18th via email to highlowaha218@gmail.com. Remember all we need is a short paragraph explaining who you'd like to nominate and why.

Wow - this is unusual. I'm first.
I pick Skype. It's great with kids. My sister in law uses it to talk to her dad and her kids and sing, dance, etc for the camera. We used it over the holidays at their house. I loved it.
Happy St. Patricks Day everyone. The river is green in Chicago and we'll be raising a glass later!

Too many details to look at with each product.. if I'm slow at work I'll check back in and choose my favorite after I read through!

Happy St. Patrick's Day y'all!!!

I love Skype too...we use it with the webcam to talk to each other when we are away on business so Lily can see Mommy or Daddy. We also use it to talk to Lily's grandparents since we live so far away.
As far as theknot...I used it to when I was wedding planning and I think I got Laura addicted as well...once you are married thenest is a good alternative to discuss things like money matters, decorating, and of course babies...

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

(On a personal note today marks 5 years from the day Bal proposed...AW)

Yay, Texas Tidbits!

Nice Techy tips from Ohio!

I use Gmail and you can create your own homepage with lots of gadgets. One of them is Bookmarks and that's where I mark my favorite links. :)

Thanks to Ohio for all their great techy and money saving tips. If I were to use one, it would most likely be Skype. Heck, if Oprah can do it, surely I could too!

Tomorrow is your last day to submit a name for the "Women Who Take the Cake Award." A paragraph or two is all we need!

P.S. Don't you love our new look?

I, too, love Skype! I used it a lot to talk to friends and family while I was studying abroad. And in fact, I'm sitting here in the Hall Director office, and a fellow Hall Director was just telling me that she has to use Skype to interview for a professional position next week! It's crazy how far technology has brought us...and I love it!

Happy St. Patty's Day!

PS. I LOVE the new look!

Sooo...... What are y'all doing today?

What are you doing to celebrate St. Patty's Day.

Did everyone remember to wear green?

Claudia @ Highlowaha said...

I am wearing a green jacket and I just got a compliment on it from across campus.

No pinching here.

Hello HLA! First of all I think Skype is great we all use it but being a mom who is more into her kids education than communication I have to go with the SMART BOARD! My kida are in 2 different private schools ( same ownership) and EVERY classroom is a "Smart Class". It is truly amazing how everything from their textbook pages to power point can be displayed for the class. It is a very expensive system but is worth every penny. I hope everyone has a great day!

A Shamrock shake sounds great! I've been trying to think of a green treat for tonight. I might just make some green sugar cookies. So far we're covered in kid's shamrock tattoos and we've talked about St Patrick and leprechauns and rainbows. I was a little torn on talking about leprechauns, but I figured we teach them there's an Easter bunny, so why not:)

On the tech stuff. We have skype, we used it once and I liked it was a fun way to connect and see faces, so much more personal!

I just thought of something... there's TheKnot.com,
there's TheNest.com...
What the divorced version?

I'm just saying, What about ME? me, me, ME! :-) hee, hee.

Anonymous said...

Cheryl there are sections of thenest for single parents!!!!

I have to be honest that I left the nest a while back for a splintered message board that some of the girls started but it really is a great site with tons of great info.

"LET'S GO PITT!"

...sorry, I couldn't resist. It's March Madness time, and my Pitt Panthers are the number-one seed.

Anyhow, I'm back from a great week of Habitat for Humanity work in Florida. I feel like I've missed a lot, but I've tried to catch up.

I've heard wonderful things about Skype, and still have yet to try it. But that's my vote.
